Supporting Immigrant Children
In this workshop, you are invited to explore inclusive, reflective, and relationship-based pedagogical approaches when working with newcomer and immigrant families. Through dialogue, storytelling, and practical examples, participants will examine the role of home language, respectful communication with families, and diverse ways of sharing information, such as community conversations. The session highlights what newcomer families may experience upon arriving in Canada, including fear, identity shifts, and resilience. Educators will engage in reflective practice to challenge myths and assumptions about immigrants and consider pedagogical strategies grounded in care, belonging, and partnership, supporting children and families through culturally responsive and ethical early learning practices.
