The Capable and Confident Infant (RIE)

Presenter: Alicia Kirlik

Are you an infant toddler educator who wants to build strong relationships with the children in your care? A 3-5 or school age educator who does break coverage in an infant program? Or an in-home provider wondering how to care for an infant alongside the older children? This workshop is inspired by the work of Madga Gerber and the principles of the RIE educaring approach. Participants will explore the idea of seeing infants as intelligent participators in their environment. There will be an engaging mix of presentation, group discussion and active role-play.

Required Materials: Please bring a baby sized doll or large stuffed animal and a diaper to fit that will be used to practice caregiving moments; and wear clothing that you would feel comfortable enough to move around in.

Alicia began her journey as an ECE in 2011 working as an assistant in an infant toddler classroom. She then worked in various preschools, group care and out of school care programs. After running her own RIE® inspired parent and infant play classes for a season she is now at home with her own two little humans. She enjoys adventuring outdoors, growing plants, embroidering plants and eating rice pudding.

Suitable for parents and early learning professionals working with infants and toddlers.

Pro D certificate: Yes, 4 hours.
