Research is clear on the importance of regular and repeated access to outdoor and risky play. Community and home environments provide important opportunities for children to enhance their play experiences and take on new challenges. This session will outline the benefits of outdoor and risky play and how parents, families, and educators can support this form of play in their children’s lives. Learn about the key ingredients to enhance outdoor and risky play (‘time’, ‘space’ and ‘freedom’) and how you can begin to incorporate these into a child’s everyday life. This is an interactive workshop that will work through real examples from the field, examine emerging research across British Columbia, and provide supportive next steps on your journey towards supporting children’s outdoor and risky play.
