Supporting Children’s Social and Emotional Wellness in the Early Years (4 Day Course)
This 12-hour course will provide an opportunity for participants to identify the impact of healthy attachment on young children’s mental health. By engaging in the hands-on sessions, participants will explore attachment theory, brain development in the early years and will learn practical ways to support children’s wellbeing.
Session 1: Intro to the course. What is Healthy Development? Relationships at the center of early childhood mental health. Attachment and the impact across the lifespan.
Session 2: The Developing Brain. Impact of early experiences on brain development.
Session 3: The stress response system. Outcomes of chronic stress in early years.
Session 4: Creating curriculum to support children’s mental health.
Participants will need to be available for all 4 sessions.
A twelve-hour professional development certificate will be issued at the end of the last session.
Andrea has taught in the Early Childhood Education programs at Langara College in Vancouver, BC since 2007. She is currently the Department Chair. With a strong educational background in early childhood psychology, Andrea plans her courses to include interactive learning opportunities and a variety of ways to engage students with the theory presented in class.
Suitable for child care providers, child care workforce, and parents.
