Supporting Autistic Individuals in Community & Employment Settings

This virtual training will provide:

  • An overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, including current prevalence, common characteristics, and the diverse ways autism presents across individuals
  • Up-to-date and inclusive language and terminology around autism and disabilityPractical strategies to support Autistic individuals through:

Motivation and engagement

Increasing predictability and reducing anxiety

Enhancing communication, including alternative forms of communication

Navigating difficult moments and escalation

  • Guidance Canucks Autism Network (CAN) programs and services
  • A brief introduction to CAN’s employment and community programs and how we work in partnership with employers, schools, and service providers
  • A curated list of resources and tools for continued learning and support

Whether you’re a frontline staff member, supervisor, educator, coach, or employer, this session will offer valuable insights to help create inclusive, welcoming environments where Autistic individuals can thrive.

About the Presenter:
Morgan Painchaud (she/her) is the Manager of Employment Programs for Canucks Autism Network (CAN) in Kelowna. Since 2017, she has supported Autistic individuals across the lifespan—from youth to older adults—in areas such as recreation, sports, volunteering, activities of daily living, and employment. With a strong background in both recreation and vocational support, Morgan brings a strengths-based, person-centered lens to this work and is passionate about building more inclusive communities.
