Rooted in Wonder: An Experiential Journey into Outdoor Learning for Growing
Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity for outdoor professional development on Wednesday, August 27th at Bellevue Creek Elementary.
Rooted in Wonder: An Experiential Journey into Outdoor Learning for Growing Minds
Join us for a hands-on day of exploration designed specifically for Early Childhood Educators and teachers eager to deepen their nature-based and experiential teaching practices.
Rooted in the First Peoples Principles of Learning, this immersive experience highlights the profound connections between children’s curiosity, the land, and their communities. Led by Dr. Beverlie Dietze—renowned researcher, author, and leading expert in outdoor pedagogy, play-based learning, and early childhood development—this event will explore how outdoor environments create authentic, multidisciplinary learning opportunities for young children.
The day begins with thought-provoking insights from Dr. Dietze, followed by a dynamic outdoor session where participants will engage directly with natural materials and provocations.
Everyday outdoor spaces will be reimagined as living laboratories for exploration, discovery, and meaningful learning.
Educators will deepen their understanding through:
· Collaborative dialogue
· Land-based learning
· Documentation practices that make children’s thinking and learning visible
Guided by Indigenous knowledge partners and inspired by creative tools such as Polaroid cameras and loose parts, participants will reflect on how outdoor learning nurtures curiosity, cultural respect, and environmental stewardship.Come ready to:
· Be present and listen deeply
· Learn from the land
· Make your learning visible
· Leave rooted in new possibilities
