Rhythm, Movement, and Culture in Early Learning Workshop

Through the progression of rhythmic games, movement exercises, drumming and percussion, participants will experience and explore world music and culture. Rhythm, song, and stories are the pathway to enriching cultural understanding and supports peer bonding and community building! Art program goals:

  • To increase hand-eye coordination and global motor skills through multi-sensory and kinesthetic exercises using drumming, song, movement, and games
  • To develop verbal and nonverbal skills through rhythmic phrases, songs stories and group discussion
  • To demonstrate and teach basic musical rhythm concepts: tempo, timing pace, beats, pattern, dynamic, tone and base through hand drumming exercises and techniques
  • To generate awareness and knowledge of world music and culture
  • To relate basic literacy concepts through narration, group participation and songs
  • To relay basic elements of movement, rhythm, pattern, body, space, energy, shape, and force

Interactive, energetic, multi-sensory and kinesthetic teaching format designed to respond to varied learning styles, abilities, and age ranges. The presentation is clear, engaging and fun. The pace and energy of the workshop maintains interest by engaging participants through drumming, songs and movement.
