Responsible Adult In Child Care Settings Course

This is a multi-day workshop. Please ensure you are available for all the dates listed below:

Online Friday, May 9, 2025 from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm (Tech session) and 10 online sessions on Mondays & Wednesdays, May 12, 14, 26, 28, June 2, 4, 9, 11, 16 & 18, 2025 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Course Requirements:

  • Be at least 19 years of age at time of registration.
  • All participants must have grade 8 English written and oral skills (or equivalent) to actively participate during class.
  • Read and understand the ‘Refund and Cancellation Policies’, ‘Workshop/Course Policies’, ‘Classroom Code of Conduct’ and the ‘At Our Workshops’ section at the bottom of the course page.

Description:

This course was developed by Westcoast to meet the requirements for 20 hours Responsible Adult training as stipulated by the Child Care Regulation. Through online workshops, it covers concepts about child development from birth to 12 years of age, child guidance, health, safety and nutrition and programming. This is a basic course meant for people starting their career in child care. This course is not suitable for those requiring professional development to renew an ECE or ECEA certificate.

Employment Possibilities
Responsible Adults are qualified to work in:

  1. School Age Group Child Care (licensed before and after school care).
  2. Occasional Child Care (licensed).
  3. As a replacement (substitute/casual on call) for an ECE Assistant (for less than 30 days) in a licensed group child care centre (a Responsible Adult may not replace a fully qualified early childhood educator).
  4. Open a licensed family childcare.
  5. Summer camps.

Facilitator(s): Vesna Krcmar

Vesna is an experienced facilitator and Early Childhood Educator, she has worked as a Vancouver CCRR Child Care Services Consultant at Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre and currently she is their Outreach Professional Development Coordinator. She brings a rich background in working with 0-5 year old children in both family child care and group care settings, and as a Westcoast instructor and facilitator for various courses and workshops.
