Promoting Preschoolers’ Social-Emotional Development Through Peer Interaction- In Person Workshop

Preschool provides a unique environment for children to learn and grow. Social and emotional development is especially enhanced through peer interactions. Through activities such as playing, imitating, problem-solving, and collaborating with each other, children gain the skills necessary to build relationships and develop their social understanding. These skills are essential for a successful transition into kindergarten and life beyond school. Nonetheless, some preschoolers have difficulty engaging in social situations with their peers or making friends. For those children, it is important to provide support and guidance from teachers, parents, or other caregivers in order to help them develop the necessary social and emotional skills. With the right support, children can learn to interact with their peers in meaningful ways and gain the social and emotional development that will last throughout their lives.

In this workshop, we will learn to scaffold young children’s peer interactions to help them build the necessary socialemotional skills such as sharing, perspective-taking, entering play, and caring for each other.
