Neurodiversity and the Myth of Normal: Building Inclusive Environments
The terms neurodiversity and neurodivergence are becoming more prevalent in our field. These terms relate to the variation in neurological functioning in humans, much like biodiversity relates to the variation of life on Earth at the genetic, species, and ecosystem levels.
The neurodiversity movement asks us to recognize that there is no single “normal” way to perceive the world. Instead, we must appreciate that many people experience the world differently, and that this diversity is natural.
In this workshop, Pam Collins will introduce:The definitions of neurodiversity and neurodivergence The history and current research on the topic Strategies to support neurodivergent children Ways to build truly inclusive environments
