Neurodivergent-Affirming Practices & Care

In this 2 hour in-person workshop, you will learn how to strengthen your understanding of why we are shifting the way we provide support to autistic children and how to begin doing it.

In this workshop, you will learn about:

  • The difference in terms such as ‘neurodiversity’ and ‘neurodivergent’
  • The principles of a neurodivergent-affirming framework
  • The medical vs. social model of disability
  • Shifting our perspective and language use: what we are moving away from and what we are moving towards
  • Moving from methods of control and compliance to fostering authentic connection
  • Social communication differences and the ‘double empathy problem’
  • Neurodivergent communication styles and gestalt language processing
  • Sensory differences and providing environmental accommodations
  • Play differences and learning through play
  • Real-life examples and applying neurodivergent-affirming approaches
