Menopause & Work in Canada: Unleash the Potential Michelle Sexstone

Why We Need to Close the Menopause Knowledge Gap:

  • Women over the age of 40 comprise more than 1/4 of the workforce.
  • Most women enter menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, with 51 being the average age in Canada.
  • Women will spend up to 1/2 of their lives in a menopausal state (perimenopause, menopause, postmenopause) with symptoms and health risks associated with each stage.
  • 1 in 100 women enter menopause before the age of 40.
  • 1 in 1,000 women enter menopause before the age of 30.
  • 1 in 10,000 women enter menopause before the age of 20.
  • MFC’s landmark report on menopause in Canada revealed several surprising statistics:
  • 1 in 2 women in Canada between the ages of 40 and 60 are unprepared for menopause.
  • 4 in 10 women report feeling alone during their menopause.

Michelle Sexstone is the Chair of Engagement with the Menopause Foundation of Canada, a national non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to breaking the silence and the stigma of menopause.  Michelle wanted to pro-actively volunteer her time and efforts to help raise awareness and solutions for women at large. Her passion is to help women navigate the Menopausal years and the impact on their work and personal lives.

Suitable for child care providers, child care workforce, and parents.
