Kids at Risk/Hope – In-Person Workshop

If the first five years of a child’s life sets the tone for the rest of their life, what happens when children are developing under stress? Kids at Hope is an invitation to better understand the complexities of early childhood development and how, as care providers, we can create barriers to reduce the impacts of stress and trauma which often present as challenging behaviours. This workshop will engage child care providers in learning about research such as the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACES) and the social determinants of health. We will identify opportunities for hope even when early life starts with challenges and develop tools that are within the scope of practice and capability of child care providers.

SUITABLE FOR ALL EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE PROFESSIONALS

Presenter: Katelyn Moon

Katelyn is a white settler of mixed European decent who resides in the unceded territory of the Sto:lo peoples (Chilliwack BC). Katelyn has been an early childhood educator since 2007; she has been highly regarded for her work focused on child-led learning and social emotional development. Over the last several years Katelyn has worked in community and regional child and youth roles supporting indigenous peoples. Katelyn is a student in the Master of Arts in Leadership with a health focus at Royal Roads University.
