It IS child’s play, and it’s important!

Across cultures and species, we see the youngest members naturally engage with the world in the form of play. In fact, mammals with larger brain mass tend to have a longer maturation process. Why did nature intend this? To allow ample time and opportunity for PLAY.

Play is the most effective and innate way young children learn – about the world, about others, and about themselves. Straight out of the BC Early Learning Framework, “Play is integral to well-being and learning.” Yet many parts of our culture are encroaching on free play and it is trickling down to the earliest years of young children’s lives. We each play a part in that system and as educators and caregivers, you can be on the side that promotes the importance of play. Geared towards the infant and toddler ages, this workshop will help you learn:

How to observe and facilitate play.
How to be the protector of play.
How to make sense of, sustain, and extend play.
How to help infants and toddlers explore their inquiries through play.
How to document their learning through play to share with co-caregivers and parents.
