Felting as Inquiry

Experiences with unspun sheep’s wool offer a wide range of creative possibilities for both children and adults. The properties of natural wool appeal to the imagination in a vivid and inspirational manner. Participants will be introduced to forms of wool fibers, process of wet wool felting and its meditative nature. In our engagement with wool as a medium and through the process of felting, we uncover possibilities for experimentation, (self) inquiry, and story-ing pedagogical narratives. Participants will have an opportunity to engage in an exploratory process of wet felting a two-dimensional, abstract interpretation of a landscape consisting of an array of colours specific to the Pacific Northwest, and a three-dimensional ‘nesting barnacles’.
