Family Child Care Administration Course

This is a multi-day workshop. Please ensure you are available for all the dates listed below:

Mandatory Tech-Session: March 28, 2025 from 6:00 pm to7:30 pm. 4 Saturdays on March 29 & April 5, 12 & 26, 2025 (no class on April 19th). Time: 10:00 am – 1:30 pm.

Through interactive sessions this 16-hour course guides participants to explore what needs to be considered when opening a Licensed Family Child Care program. Brainstorm ideas, policies, procedures, and proven practices, as well as basic business practices like how to project a business budget, record keeping, organizing expenses and paperwork to be ready for tax season. We’ll identify and review necessary policies and procedures, and as a final assignment participants will learn how to develop, write and review their own Parent Package/Manual containing their Centre’s policies, contracts, daily schedule, programming, etc.

This course is not suitable for those requiring Professional Development to renew an ECE or ECEA Certificate. 

Objectives:

  • Explore things to consider when starting a Licensed Family Child Care Program.
  • Become familiar with CCRR best and proven practices in family child care.
  • Identify and review policies and procedures and create or review a Parent
  • Package/Manual, containing the Centre’s policies, contracts, daily schedule,
  • programming, etc. before the last session.
  • Explore basic business practices.
  • Obtain basic knowledge about the Affordable Child Care Benefit.
  • Learn effective strategies for forming positive relationships with families.

Suitable for registered or licensed family child care providers who would like to refine their administration skills and/or review their Parent Package. This course is not suitable for those requiring professional development to renew an ECE or ECEA certificate.

This course is for participants who have taken Westcoast’s 20-hour Responsible Adult course at WCCRC, and would like to continue their career in child care by opening their own family child care business.

Requirements: 

  • Carefully read all policies.
  • Be 19 years of age at the time of registration.
  • Have Grade 8 English written and oral skills (or equivalent) to actively participate during class.
  • Camera and microphone must be working and enabled to take this course, and participants must be visible and active.
  • Join from a computer rather than a smartphone or other mobile devices.

Facilitator(s): Vesna Krcmar

Vesna is an experienced facilitator and Early Childhood Educator, she has worked as a Vancouver CCRR Child Care Services Consultant at Westcoast Child Care Resource Centre and currently she is their Outreach Professional Development Coordinator. She brings a rich background in working with 0-5 year old children in both family child care and group care settings, and as a Westcoast instructor and facilitator for various courses and workshops.
