Who are early childhood educators? Within this interactive workshop, educators will engage in discussion surrounding this complex question. We will consider what has shaped the image of the educator, the colonial histories within our role, and the value of our work. Using everyday language to navigate complex topics, we will think and talk together about the image of early childhood educators and the importance of disrupting commonly held perceptions of our field. Topics include decolonization, diversity and inclusion, neoliberalism, and the concept of radical dialogue.

The goal of this workshop is to provide a space for educators to have a stronger understanding of how the current image of the educator came to be, to consider why we do what we do, and the complexities within our role, and to recognize that change in our field is possible. Participants can expect a dynamic workshop with active participation and rich dialogue alongside the sharing of information.
