Developing a Sense of Place by Sparking Curiosity and Wonder: A Walking Curriculum for the Early Years
This workshop introduces principles and practices of Imaginative Ecological Education, or IEE. Specifically, it will examine activities designed to support imaginatively engaging outdoor learning in the early years. We will introduce a resource called A Walking Curriculum for the Early Years that offers a plethora of imagination-focused, inquiry-based exploratory activities that develop a sense of place through curiosity and wonder. Participants will learn key features of successful practice including documentation of learning and how to prepare students to engage outdoors.
Presenters: Dr. Gillian Judson, Dr. Michelle Mckay, and Klara Redford
We are educators passionate about providing opportunities for our youngest learners to get outside and learn from and with the land. We have been working together for the past several years, publishing articles amplifying the work of educators and students in the early years. We have developed and facilitated many professional learning webinars and in-person sessions focused on bringing together a community of educators who share a love for learning and teaching in the early years.
Zoom links will be sent on the day of the workshop; please contact our office if you do not receive one.
