Children’s Rights & Caregivers’ Responsibilities
As childcare professionals, you play a vital role in keeping children safe and supported. This workshop explores how Canadian child protection laws and BC’s Child Care Licensing Regulation work together to uphold children’s rights and guide caregivers’ responsibilities. Participants will learn how legal principles translate into everyday childcare practices, from duty of care and supervision to recognizing and reporting concerns.
This workshop will be led by a legal educator from the Justice Education Society’s Public Legal Education team. With a background in law and experience delivering community-based workshops, our facilitator provides clear and practical information to help participants stay informed and empowered.
Workshop Objectives:
– Understand how Canadian and BC laws protect children’s rights and safety.
– Understand legal responsibilities of caregivers.
– Explore how law and licensing work together to promote quality care and accountability.
– Recognize signs of child abuse or neglect and know when and how to report.
