Building A Foundation of Emotional Regulation
Emotional regulation is vital to the healthy development of young children. A balanced and regulated child can play, collaborate, explore, initiate, take risks, and more. They are at rest and open to discovering the world around them. Yet, a calm, curious, and eager to learn child is not the only picture we conjure in our minds when we think about children. We also happen to think of those times of dysregulation: a boiling over of emotions that lead to outbursts, tears, meltdowns, and more. While we want children to feel and express all emotions, one might wonder how they are to help build a path to emotional regulation. What is the road map to strengthening the child’s ability to ride those waves of emotion?
This workshop provides information for caregivers and professionals about the latest research on emotional regulation for children as well as practical ways to support children to find that emotional balance with increasing ease.
