Beyond the Playground: Outdoor Education and Indigenous Ways of Knowing
In this 2-hour, in person workshop, participants will explore the importance of outdoor education as it relates to child development, health and well-being. We will investigate how to create a meaningful and authentic relationship with place, and brainstorm ways for young children to gain a deeper connection to the land. This session will uncover strategies to support children’s success in learning and consider the educator’s vital role in providing time, materials, and space for children to investigate their natural world. The presenter has been given permission by multiple Indigenous researchers and community members to share Indigenous ways of knowing and will do so with deep respect for its origins and cultural significance.
