Behaviour as Communication: What Children Are Really Asking For

This workshop invites educators to shift their understanding of behaviour from something to
manage or correct to something meaningful to listen to. Participants will explore behaviour as a
form of communication, especially when children lack the words to express their needs.
Through real-life examples, reflection, and practical strategies, educators will learn how to
identify the unmet needs underneath challenging behaviours and respond with clarity,
empathy, and appropriate boundaries. The session emphasizes connection-based guidance,
emotional safety, and co-regulation, helping educators support children without shame or
punishment. Participants will leave with tools they can use immediately to respond to behaviour
with curiosity, confidence, and compassion.
