The Weight of Words: Language Matters

Explore the implications of our language use when speaking about disability, neurodivergence, and support needs. This workshop encourages participants to engage with a growth mindset while self reflecting on their language choices, personal bias, and the responsibility we hold within our communication. We will explore specific examples and update outdated terminology for current understanding and practice.

Presenter: Monica Maddison

Monica is a neurodiversity affirming consultant and educator, supporting children and their families across North America. With 15 years of professional experience, she presents the big concepts surrounding neurodiversity, disability, and inclusion in easy to understand (and actionable!) ways.
