Reconceptualizing the Meaning of Play in the Early Years

Taking a critical look at the current literature on play, it is clear that play is more than just a fun pass time or way to occupy children’s time. Play gives children time, agency and it can be healing. Play is how we best prepare children for the future. Unfortunately, play is used as a marketing tool and implemented in ways that limit creativity and resilience. In this workshop educators will:

-Learn about how to maximize creativity and resilience through play.

-Discuss barriers and how to work around those barriers.

-Think about ways to advocate for free play in the early years.
