SUMMARY:Reconceptualizing the Meaning of Play in the Early Years
DESCRIPTION:Taking a critical look at the current literature on play, it is clear that play is more than just a fun pass time or way to occupy children’s time. Play gives children time, agency and it can be healing. Play is how we best prepare children for the future. Unfortunately, play is used as a marketing tool and implemented in ways that limit creativity and resilience. In this workshop educators will:\n-Learn about how to maximize creativity and resilience through play.\n-Discuss barriers and how to work around those barriers.\n-Think about ways to advocate for free play in the early years.\nPresenter: Ana Valle Rivera\nAna is a proud mother of three, a public speaker, TEDx speaker, a consultant, and the founder of Early Years Thriving. Since 2007, Ana has worked in various capacities in the early years field to support children, families, and educators. Ana has a background in ECE, a Bachelor’s Degree in Child & Youth Care, and a Master’s of Professional Education in Early Childhood Education.\nZoom links will be sent on the day of the workshop; please contact our office if you do not receive one.\n
